Beschreibung
The fifth stage of the Württemberg Wine Cycle Path begins in Marbach am Neckar - the birthplace of Friedrich Schiller. The great German writer is omnipresent here, for example in the Museum of Modern Literature and the Schiller National Museum.
The Württemberg Wine Cycle Path now takes cyclists along the Neckar river: vineyards, orchards, natural river valleys and towns steeped in history and culture lie along the way. In the Rems Valley, the route leads through vineyards and wine villages.
One of the most beautiful views on this stage is from the burial chapel on Württemberg hill. The memorial was built by King Wilhelm I as a token of love for his prematurely deceased wife Queen Katharina and offers a fantastic view of the Baden-Württemberg state capital Stuttgart with its vineyards and the Neckar valley.
The tour continues in the direction of Stuttgart. A stop in the idyllic village of Uhlbach is well worthwhile, as the wine museum in the historic setting of the Alte Kelter invites you to take a tour through 2,000 years of wine-growing history. Afterwards, you can taste the wines of Stuttgart's winegrowers wine shop - more than 20 regional wines are on the menu, which changes every two months.
The end point of this stage is the romantic medieval town of Esslingen am Neckar. The old town is home to numerous half-timbered houses, including Germany's oldest row of half-timbered houses, and Esslingen Castle towers above the town and the Esslingen vineyards.
Autorentipp
Stop off in Stuttgart-Uhlbach at the beautiful wine museum and enjoy a glass of wine in the vinotheque. Afterwards, pay a visit to the burial chapel on the Württemberg, from where you can enjoy the breathtaking view over the entire region.
Four wine villages await you in the Rems Valley: Fellbach, Kernen, Weinstadt and Korb - viticulture is everywhere here.
The ADFC Baden-Württemberg offers a 9-day individual tour along the Württemberger Weinradweg. Further information and booking options can be found here.
Ausrüstung
Due to the topography and some meters of altitude along the route, we recommend a sports or trekking bike - no further equipment is necessary.
