On the trail of Jewish life in Esslingen's old town.
In the Obertor suburb, in front of the Mörike and Georgiigymnasium schools, at the entrance to the Theodor Rothschild House, and increasingly also in the historic cobblestones of the old town, 37 “stumbling blocks” have been embedded as small memorials. Each stone represents a human destiny from the time of Nazi crimes against Jews, the sick, forced laborers, or the politically persecuted. The “Stumbling Stones & Jewish Life” tour takes us on a journey through time: the stumbling stones are a sign of remembrance for people whose work helped shape culture and social life in Esslingen at the beginning of the 20th century.
